Yarrow’s Spiny Lizards Give Live Birth!

One of my favorite lizard facts is that not all lizards lay eggs, some give live birth like Yarrow’s spiny lizard, Sceloporus jarrovii!

What’s yours?!

When lizards and other reptiles are carrying their young, we refer to them as being gravid or egg carrying animals.

Humans and other mammals deliver food to their unborn young through a placenta thus they are pregnant.

Live bearing reptiles also carry eggs, then when the baby lizards are just ready to be born they hatch from their eggs inside the mother and then she gives birth to her young.
