Listen Then Look

One of the best ways of spotting lizards is to look for them. Often, they’ll see and hear you before you can do either.

I listen for the sound of lizards like this western fence lizard, Sceloporus occidentalis, scurrying into bushes, around the side of a tree, or the other side of a rock.

With a bit of practice, you’ll be able to distinguish between the sounds of small mammals, birds, or even a strong breeze to identify lizard footsteps.

Go outside and practice! Let me know what you hear!
