What Do Lizards Eat?

What would you say if someone asked you “what do lizards eat?” You’d probably say that they eat insects. And you’d be right.

But where do those insects come from? Are they strictly terrestrial, living their entire life cycle on land? Or are they aquatic insects, living their larval stage in water and living their adult stage on land?

One part of Earyn’s dissertation focused on figuring out if lizards are eating emerging aquatic insects. It is important to know this information for conservation efforts. As the Southwestern United States continues to face drought and stream drying lizards could lose an important food source, aquatic insects.

Increasing Representation in Natural Resources Careers

Climate and land use change are currently affecting people across the globe, and it is crucial going forward that the general public, especially underserved communities, have access to, and an understanding of, climate and conservation science. It is also important that their is an increase in representation in decision making positions for Black Indigenous and other people of color (BIPOC). This is why, part of her dissertation examined barriers preventing Black women from entering and remaining in natural resources careers and introducing BIPOC middle school aged girls to careers in natural resources.
