Na Na Na Can’t Hear You
Lizards have a lot of cool adaptations that match the environments they evolved in.
Can you #FindThatLizard?!
Take for example the greater earless lizard, Cophosaurus texanus, they primarily live in desert habitats with loose gravel and sandy substrate. Although they’re called earless lizards, they do in fact have ears. Their ears are just covered by a flap of skin. So they have no external ear holes.
Their ear covering prevent sand and other debris from getting in their ears when burrowing underground. They can detect sound especially low frequency ones and those transmitted through the ground.
