The Desert Spiny Lizard

The desert spiny lizard, Sceloporus magister, is primarily found in Arizona, Mexico, and parts of Arizona and Nevada. They are a relatively large lizard that can be found on rocks, trees, walls, and on the ground. They like to take shelter under logs, rocks, and will escape the heat and predators by running into burrows.

As you can see in the first photo, the males of this species have very colorful throats and stomachs. When they need to display defensiveness to other males, or attract females, they will display these colors to other lizards and do pushups.
