The Western Toad

On Monday I had the chance to do some herping with the Southwestern Herpetological Society. One of the organization’s leaders Peggy Wu also works at the Zoo and when we met, I told her my love of all things herps and we bonded over the shared interest.

This week we were searching for the Pacific chorus frog but we found some adorable western toads along the way!

A herpetological group, is basically a fandom for reptiles and amphibians. If you’re looking to go herping, to build community, or even professional opportunities, googling herpetological society in “your city here.” You’ll likely find some people. This also works for other wildlife groups like birds with Audubon societies or invertebrates with entomological societies.

It was really fun being able to explore with other nature enthusiasts and I hope more people get the chance to do things like this.

Let me know in the comments if you’re a part of any societies and if you have resources for people wanting to get involved!
