Call to Action: Spam the QR Code
Earlier this month, the Trump Administration sent a memo to the Department of the Interior to remove signage that "inappropriately disparages Americans past or living and instead focuses on the greatness of the achievements and progress of the American people."
It took decades to put up signage that accurately describes the history of the lands on which our national parks sit.
Some of that history is bloody, such as the intentional removal and partial genocide of all Indigenous peoples. Other signage highlights the history of these same people as well as the positive contributions of other people’s of color.
Good or bad, these aren’t the histories the Trump Administration wants to highlight. They want to rewrite history to paint a white America that has never done any wrong.
We can’t let this happen. If we erase our history, we are doomed to repeat it.
If you are visiting a national park anytime in the future, please use the QR codes to submit a comment saying you value the truth and will not stand for the whitewashing of history.
If you are a scientist, ecologist, conservationist, environmentalist, etc., now is the time to acknowledge that your science does have political implications. If the events of the last six months have taught you anything, it should be that you can’t just focus on the science. You must also acknowledge the social and human elements.
